Each issue we’re going to be hunting down the best Linux applications available on the internet so you don’t have to. This could be anything from image manipulation to web browsers, from hardware monitoring to encryption and everything in between. Clonezilla NEW

Once you’ve gone through the painful process of re-installing your operating system for whatever reason and spent the day installing all your software, updates and drivers, you’ll wish you’d made a system backup to fall back on. Clonezilla enables you to make that boot drive backup and compares itself to Norton Ghost, a well respected commercial alternative. Clonezilla works off a live Linux distro, so you simply boot off a CD or USB Flash drive and follow some basic menus to either backup or restore a backup.

ZiK

ZiK is a Linux audio player based on gstreamer. Rather than using a library, files are added by their location path, which makes for an extremely lightweight and fast program. It uses your GTK theme for button, and can play CDs and webradio streams as well as a wide range of audio formats (exactly which are supported will depend on the gstreamer plug-ins installed).
